Edison May Let Residents Buy Alcohol Earlier On Sundays, Holidays

A public hearing on the ordinance is scheduled for Nov. 25.

EDISON, NJ – Edison introduced an ordinance during their last council meeting that aims to permit retailers to sell alcohol at an earlier time.

Currently, the township permits alcohol to be served, sold, consumed and delivered from Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 3 a.m.

On Sundays, the sale starts at noon until 3 a.m.

The new ordinance proposes to allow sales to begin as early as 7 a.m. on Sundays, and New Year’s Day.

“Many residents have been complaining that when they go to Costco on Sundays to do their weekly shopping, they can’t get their wines until 12 p.m.,” councilman Nishit Patel said.

“So, I’m hoping we can pass this and make it easier for residents to do all their shopping at one go.”
