Edison, Metuchen 2025 Election Guide: Candidates, Deadlines, How To Vote

EDISON, NJ — A heated contest for governor between Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli is sure to bring many voters to the polls on Nov. 4. But there will be plenty of other choices for local voters to make in the 2025 general election – including a hotly contested school board race.

The Middlesex County Clerk’s Office has released sample ballots for Edison and Metuchen, which can be found here.

Here are the races that Edison and Metuchen voters will be asked to cast ballots for:

NJ GOVERNOR – Candidates for New Jersey governor include Jack Ciattarelli (Republican), Mikie Sherrill (Democrat), Vic Kaplan (Libertarian Party) and Joanne Kuniansky (Socialist Workers Party). Candidates running write-in campaigns include Lily Benavides (Green Party) and Darrell Armstrong (independent). The term lasts for four years.

NJ ASSEMBLY, 18th DISTRICT (vote for two) – Candidates for New Jersey Assembly in the 18th district include Sterley Stanley (Democrat), Robert Karabinchak (Democrat), Eugene DeMarzo (Republican) and Melanie McCann Mott (Republican). Terms last for two years.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY CLERK – Local voters will also get to cast a ballot in the race for Middlesex County Clerk. The candidates are Nancy J. Pinkin (Democrat) and Joseph Wolak (Republican). The term lasts for five years.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY SHERIFF: The term lasts three years and the candidates are Mildred S Scott (Democrat) and Pedro Peter Pisar (Republican)

EDISON MAYOR AND COUNCIL

Two candidates are running for mayor, incumbent Sam Joshi (Democrat) and challenger David Tingle (Independent). Those running for council are Democrats Kelli Dima, Biral Patel and Robert J. Kentos. The Republican candidates are Gloria Dittman and Samiksha Sharmas, while Elizabeth Conway is running as an independent.

METUCHEN COUNCIL

Four candidates are running for two council seats - Democrats Lisa Hyman and Meg Loftus Suchan and Republicans Mark Flaherty and Meredith Joyce.

EDISON SCHOOL BOARD: Eight candidates are seeking to fill three spots on the Edison Board of Education this November. The candidates are Sarjil Mansuri, Taha Shaikh, Sparshil Patel, Brian Rivera, Joseph Romano, Xiaohan "Shannon" Peng (Students First), Vishal Patel (Students First) and Russell J. Azzarello.

HOW TO VOTE

There are three ways to vote in the 2025 general election in New Jersey. Here’s what options are available for Middlesex County residents, according to the clerk’s office:

Vote By Mail – Registered voters can request a mail-in ballot by completing an application at middlesexcountynj.gov/vote and clicking "Vote by Mail." Applications submitted by mail must reach the County Clerk's Office at least seven days before Election Day. Voters may also apply in person or through an authorized messenger at the Office of the County Clerk, 26 Kennedy Boulevard, Suite B, East Brunswick, until 3 p.m. on Monday, November 3 (the day before the election).

Returning Your Mail-In Ballot: Voters have three options to return completed mail-in ballots:

• Mail: Send the ballot through the U.S. Postal Service. Ballots must be postmarked by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Properly postmarked ballots must be received by the County Board of Elections by 8 p.m. on November 10.

• In person: Deliver the ballot directly to the Board of Elections Office, 26 Kennedy Boulevard, Suite B, East Brunswick, before 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

• Drop box: Place the ballot in a designated Middlesex County Board of Elections drop box by 8 p.m. on November 4, 2025. Drop boxes are secure and monitored 24/7 by video surveillance, with regular collections.

If you do not receive your mail-in ballot by October 8, request a replacement by calling the County Clerk's office at 732-745-4202 or submitting a replacement ballot request form.

Vote-by-mail ballots cannot be returned to in-person early voting locations or Election Day polling locations.

Early Voting – Registered voters who prefer to vote in person can choose to do so at any of the 10 early voting locations in Middlesex County. In-person early voting will be open Saturday, Oct. 25, through Sunday, Nov. 2, for the 2025 General Election. Hours will be Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

In-person early voting polling sites are located in the following municipalities throughout Middlesex County:

• East Brunswick

• Edison

• Monroe

• New Brunswick

• Old Bridge

• Perth Amboy

• Piscataway

• Sayreville

• South Brunswick

• Woodbridge

Voters who receive a Mail-In Ballot but do not return their ballot may still vote in person by provisional ballot at an early voting location.

More information, including the addresses of Early Voting locations, can be found on your sample ballot or by going to middlesexcountynj.gov/vote and clicking on “Early Voting.”

Election Day – In-person voting is available to all registered voters in Middlesex County. Voters may vote in person at their assigned polling place on General Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025. All polling locations can be found on the County website or on your sample ballot, which will be mailed two weeks prior to the General Election. Polling locations will be open from 6 am to 8 pm on General Election Day.

Voters who receive a Mail-In Ballot but do not return their ballot may still vote in person by provisional ballot at their assigned polling place on General Election Day, November 4. For any questions or concerns related to voting, call the County Clerk’s Office at 732-745-4202.
