The Plainfield Avenue location of the library will reopen just in time for the new school year

EDISON, NJ - The Edison Public Library’s Plainfield Avenue location, which has been closed for two weeks for asbestos abatement, will reopen to the public at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, officials said.
The opening comes just in time for the new school year.
“We are extremely grateful that the mandatory cleanup was completed on schedule and within budget,” Edison Public Library Director Allan Kleiman said.

Work on the upper level began in May, but construction stopped in June when asbestos tiles were uncovered beneath the existing carpet in an older section of the building.
The current building is nearly 60 years old.
Around $189,000 was allocated for the cleanup, with help from the Edison Public Library Board of Trustees.
“The board understood how important it was to move quickly and, with their support and the diligent work done by the asbestos removal companies, we will now be able to continue moving forward with our plans for a new, up-to-date facility residents of all ages can enjoy,” Kleiman said.
