In the Face of Critics: Samiksha Sharmas Pushes Forward With Grace and a Namaste Spirit
Samiksha chooses compassion opening her home for a Meet-and-Greet Soirée in the face of unkind words from Joshi supporters

Namaste, Edison friends and neighbors.
You are invited.
I came to Edison in 1999, full of hope and ready to build a life in a place that welcomed so many families like mine hardworking, proud of their roots, of their homes and eager to contribute to the community we love. Over the years, I’ve raised a family here, volunteered, have a successful business and watched Edison grow into a vibrant town, despite it's flaws, that reflects the heart of the world.
But even after more than two decades, I still face the challenges that many immigrants understand adapting to life in the United States. English is my second language, and trying to express myself clearly while my thoughts sometimes still form in Hindi. It’s a journey that takes patience, humility, and courage.

Recently, some mean-spirited comments surfaced online from supporters of my opponent. They mocked a small spelling mistake I made when posting about an event and criticized how I speak. Yes, I make mistakes. But every word I say comes from the heart — and I refuse to let ridicule dim that light.
Instead of responding with anger, I choose to respond with grace. That is what my culture and my faith each me. “Namaste” is not just a greeting; it means the light in me honors the light in you.

So, I want to extend an open invitation to everyone even those who have criticized me to join us in the true spirit of community and understanding.
On October 19th at 5:00 PM, I’ll be hosting a Driveway Soirée and Community Meet-and-Greet at 216 W. Grant Avenue. It’s not simply a political event, it’s a celebration of our shared humanity. Come for the conversation, stay for the light, and meet David Tingle, our People’s Choice candidate for Mayor, who shares our vision of an Edison where everyone belongs.
To anyone who has ever felt small for speaking with an accent, or for writing imperfectly — please know this: your voice matters. Your story matters. And the courage it takes to keep showing up, learning, and giving back is the truest form of leadership.
So, come as you are. Bring your family, your smile, and your open heart. Let’s light up Edison — not with criticism or division, but with compassion and connection.
With love, light, and a Namaste,
— Samiksha Sharmas
