“Dr. Bragen has both Superintendent and Interim Superintendent experience with large school districts and is working with district administration between now and then so he can hit the ground running. We are excited to bring his excitement and energy to the district.” Board President Jen D’Antuono said in a statement.

In a message to the community, Bragen said he was “honored and humbled” to be appointed interim superintendent and extended his gratitude to the Board of Education, district leadership, staff, families, and community members for placing their trust in him.

“Old Bridge holds a special place in my heart, and I am both excited and committed to working collaboratively to ensure the continued academic and personal success of every student in our care,” Bragen said in his statement.

“I recognize the outstanding reputation of this district and the dedication of the professionals who serve our students each day. It is a privilege to join this team in advancing the district's mission and values.”

Going forward, Bragen highlighted his priorities for the district - to foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment; supporting educators and staff; and to strengthen the partnership between schools, families, and the broader community.

In 2022, Bragen left the Edison School District after negotiations on a contract extension failed.

Bragen was hired in Edison on a three-year contract ending June 30, 2023. In 2020, he asked the Board for an extension of two years but was given one year instead.

Bragen said the reason he asked for an extension was to show the community that he is committed to Edison.

He then took up a role as superintendent at Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia.

Bragen graduated from Edison High School and served as assistant principal at John P. Stevens High School from 2004-2005.

He previously served as Superintendent of Hazlet Township Public Schools from November 2011 to December 2017, and as assistant superintendent from November 2007 to October 2011. He was also assistant professor/program director at Monmouth University.
