METUCHEN, NJ — An early-morning garbage truck fire was extinguished in Metuchen on Tuesday, fire fighters said.

The fire noticed by the garbage truck driver around 6 a.m., who pulled into an empty Liberty Street parking lot to dump the flaming garbage, Metuchen Fire Department said. The flames were contained to the garbage itself, and did not spread to the truck.

"The not so fun part is that firefighters need to pull the pile apart while hosing it down to fully extinguish everything," fire officials said.
