The opening "signifies a major expansion of recreational opportunities for our entire community," said Mayor Busch.

"In addition to serving as a field and outdoor gym for Edgar Middle School students, it will be a space for everyone that will transform it from a crucial, yet underutilized park, into a recreational hub that will enhance its neighborhood and cement the school’s role as a community school," he said.

Like Myrtle Field and Charles Fields, Edgar Field has a pedestrian walking path around its perimeter, he said. Recreation Director Rick Perrine said the field over two acres, with baseball and softball fields at either corner and an open field for other games. His office would schedule use of the fields.

Borough Administrator Melissa Perilstein said the total cost for the new fields came to $4.7 million, to be partially offset by a $2 million state grant. She said the borough is bonding for the rest of the project.
