Malnourished Puppy Found In Edison Euthanized, Police Seek Info

Do you know how this puppy wound up so sick and malnourished? Police and animal control officials are looking for more information.

EDISON, NJ — An extremely sick puppy had to be euthanized after it was found near James Madison Schools in Edison, and local officials want answers.

The puppy, pictured above, was found near the school on Sunday morning. The puppy was extremely malnourished with deformed feet. "Unfortunately, help has come for this baby too late," animal shelter officials said.

The puppy was taken to Dr. Levine at Garden State Veterinary Hospital, who found that the puppy had congestive heart failure, and "had the worst heart murmur they had ever heard." The puppy was also dehydrated, and had deformed feet, likely due to being kept in a cage for its entire life.

"Due to his suffering, being so weak he could not even lift his head with the heart failure, we had to come to the decision to humanely euthanize him. We are all so upset at whoever owned him that they could have thrown him away instead of getting him medical attention before it was too late," Edison Animal Shelter officials said.

Edison shelter officials and police are now looking for more information on how the puppy became this sick and wound up at the elementary school. Anyone with information is asked to call Edison Police (732-248-7400) or the Edison Animal Shelter (732-248-7278).
