Man Hit Crawling Under Tractor Trailer Dies: Edison PD

Police say the man sustained fatal injuries walking under a truck that was stopped, and was run over when the truck started moving.

EDISON, NJ — A Princeton man who was seriously injured when the stopped truck he tried to crawl under ran him over died from his injuries over the weekend, Edison police said.

Neal Patel, 30, of Princeton, died on Saturday at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital ICU. Patel was injured when he tried to crawl under a tractor trailer stopped for gas on Tuesday night.

The driver of the truck did not realize Patel was under the truck when he started driving away, and Patel was dragged 10 feet under the truck. The driver will not be charged, police said, and has cooperated with police.

Patel and a friend had left Wick Plaza around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night and were on their way to the Global Inn, on the other side of Route 1, when Patel crawled under a tractor trailer that was parked to get gas at the Speedway, police said. He was run over by the truck's back four tires when the truck began driving. Patel's friend did not attempt to walk under the truck, police said.
