Metuchen’s Menya Ramen House Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary

After canceling their soft opening last year due to COVID, the ramen house celebrated its one-year anniversary with a ribbon-cutting event.

METUCHEN, NJ — Menya Ramen House opened in Metuchen a year ago, amid the pandemic. But they couldn’t celebrate and had to cancel their soft opening event due to COVID-19.

The ramen house recently held a ribbon-cutting and celebrated its one-year anniversary. Community members, officials, and local business owners joined the Menya team in celebrating.

“It was tremendous, we hosted a record number of people to mark our one year,” said Ryan Park, co-owner at Menya Ramen. “We offered a 50 percent discount on ramen bowls and sold over 200 bowls of ramen that day. Despite the discount, we generated record revenue and sales. We didn’t expect that many people and luckily, we were able to handle it.”

At Menya, there’s no “instant ramen” — the restaurant puts up to 16 hours of preparation work into their menu items. The Menya Ramen team serves classic shio (salt) and shoyu (soy sauce) ramen. These bowls include toppings like roasted pork, scallions, and bamboo shoots. Soft-boiled eggs, spicy chili oil, kimchi, additional protein, and extra ramen noodles can also be ordered.

Park thanked the Metuchen community and the Metuchen Downtown Alliance for their support throughout the pandemic.

“Any other town would have been more difficult. The local support in Metuchen helped a lot and it made our learning curve much more tolerable. That helped restaurant novices like us,” said Park.

“Also like to thank Metuchen Downtown Alliance, Isaac, and Bobby because opening this restaurant took way too long and they were always there to assist and provide suggestions.”

Menya Ramen House is located at 399 Main St., Metuchen.
