Lend A Hand in Metuchen: Join The Effort to Trim & Tidy Street Trees

METUCHEN, NJ - The Shade Tree Commission in Metuchen is seeking local volunteers to help the department trim and clean up street trees.

The event will be held on May 31 with a rain date set for June 1.

The day will begin at 9:30 a.m., with coffee with the Commissioners at the plaza. Those who have questions about the street trees and suggestions about tree plantings can join this conversation.

At 9:45 a.m., volunteer sign-in will begin. All volunteers are required to sign waiver. At 10 a.m., everyone will head out limb-up, trim, and saw.

By 12 p.m., clean-up will begin and the volunteers can head home.

Those interested in participating need to keep the following in mind:

  • Wear a long-sleeved shirt, along with boots or sneakers. Bring work or gardening gloves.
  • Bring sharp tools (if you've got them): bow saws, loppers, shears, pruners.
  • All adults will be assessed/trained for their tree-trimming skills.
  • No children under the age of 12 will be allowed to participate.
