More Than 100 Chickens, Rabbits, Pigeons And Dogs Found In Middlesex County Home

Police say they discovered the animal hoarding situation Sunday, and Middlesex County Hazmat had to be called in.

EDISON, NJ — An animal hoarding situation was found Sunday in Edison, police said, where 14 dogs, approximately 60 chickens, 34 rabbits, nine pigeons and other assorted birds were being kept inside a home.

At 12:47 p.m. Sunday, Edison Police were called to a home on Stony Road West residence for a 911 call of a man having a medical emergency.

When police got there, they found two men, one of which was having a medical issue, which was not disclosed.

"It was also discovered that there were an inordinate amount of small animals throughout the house and in the basement of the dwelling," said Edison Police. "Inside the dwelling were 14 dogs, approximately 60 chickens, 34 rabbits, nine pigeons and other assorted birds."

Edison Animal Control Unit, the own Health Department and Middlesex County Hazmat were called in, and the home had to be vented to allow for fresh air flow. The building was then condemned.

Edison Animal Control is making arrangements to shelter the animals.
