Nor'easter Impacts In Edison-Metuchen: Snow Total, School Update
A major storm hit Edison-Metuchen. Here's the latest.

EDISON, NJ – A "major" nor'easter hit the Edison-Metuchen area on Sunday, continuing into Monday. As of 2 p.m. Monday, Edison received 14 inches of snow, and Metuchen recorded 10.5 inches.
Roads conditions remain hazardous. Metuchen Mayor Jonathan M Busch said they are "not likely to approach any degree of ease of movement on our roads," at least until Wednesday.

New Jersey declared a state of emergency, suspended trains and buses and restricted travel on highways. Patch is providing regular updates on the details as well as school closings.

Here's what else:
Roads: Route. 1 at Forest Haven shut down all lanes due to a wire down. All lanes have reopened.
Schools: There is no change to Edison Public Schools' schedule as the district is already following remote learning. For Monday, school staff and district employees were asked to work from home due to the weather conditions.
The Metuchen Public Schools will operate on a half-day, all-remote schedule for Monday. All buildings will be closed and sports and extracurricular activities cancelled.
Public Offices and Buildings: Edison closed its town hall and all court sessions, including virtual, scheduled for Monday were cancelled. Municipal complex will be closed on Tuesday (Feb. 2) as well.
In Metuchen all non-emergency Borough staff have been asked to stay home on Monday due to inclement weather.
Trash and Recycling: Garbage pick up in Metuchen was cancelled after the vendor in North Brunswick closed its operations on Monday. Garbage and recycling will now be picked up on Wednesday.
Here's the updated change in schedule for Edison:
- Monday, Feb. 1, garbage collection will be picked up on Thursday, Feb. 4.
- Tuesday, Feb. 2, garbage collection will be picked up on Friday, Feb. 5.
- Monday, Feb. 1, recycling section #1 collection will be picked up Saturday, Feb. 6.
- Tuesday, Feb. 2, recycling section #2 collection will be picked up on Saturday, Feb. 6.

The National Weather Service labeled the "major" system a "nor'easter" since it's expected to produce strong, sustained damaging winds and precipitation over a 24-hour period on Monday and into Tuesday.
The storm was expected to be fierce enough to cause power outages and more was expected to arrive overnight and into Tuesday (see the forecast below).
Monday: Snow could be heavy. High near 29, with northeast wind around 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of 9 to 13 inches possible.
Monday night: Snow could be heavy at times, with a low of 29. North wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Tuesday: Snow likely. High near 35 with north wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Tuesday night: Possible snow showers before 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation 30 percent. New snow accumulation of less than half an inch possible.
