Phone Scammers Pose As Edison Police - Even As Chief, PD Warns

Edison police say a phone scam asking for money or information from residents has ramped up, with scammers claiming to be officers.

EDISON, NJ — Authorities are warning residents that phone scammers are impersonating members of the Edison Police Department, even going as far as claiming to be Chief Tom Bryan.

The fraudulent calls may involve false claims about packages, compromised identities, or illegal activities - all designed to trick unsuspecting residents into giving away money or personal information, police said in an alert Friday to residents.

They urged residents to give no personal information over the phone and to alert the department immediately if someone calls claiming to be an officer.
