Putting Edison’s Seniors & Veterans First

Candidates call for action on housing, healthcare, and respect for those who built and served our community

As a senior myself, I know firsthand the joys and challenges that come with growing older in Edison. This is a town many of us have called home for decades. We have raised families here, paid taxes here, and built communities here. Too often, seniors and veterans feel forgotten when decisions are made at Town Hall. That is why I am running for Township Council to make sure our voices are heard and our needs are respected.

I am proud to be running with David Tingle for Mayor and alongside my dedicated running mates, including Elizabeth Conway, who shares my passion for standing up for our seniors and veterans. Together, we are focused on one simple idea: this is not about Republicans or Democrats. It is about doing what is right for Edison’s people.

Which is why we are proud to host the Neighbors First - An Edison Conversation on October 23rd a 6:00 PM at the Oak Tree Presbyterian Church. Join us for to bring together seniors, veterans, neighbors, and community leaders to discuss important Edison issues, share concerns, and build solutions together.

Let's talk about the issues that matter to everybody in Edison.

Affordable Housing That Lets Seniors and Veterans Stay in Edison

For many older residents and veterans, staying in the homes and neighborhoods they love has become increasingly difficult. Property taxes keep climbing, utilities rise & home maintenance gets harder. At the same time, affordable senior and veteran housing is scarce. Waiting lists are long & too many people are forced to move away from their support networks just to find a place they can afford.

New Jersey’s affordable housing rules allow municipalities like Edison to set aside a portion of required affordable units for seniors, and there are also state and federal programs specifically supporting veterans housing. Edison should be making full use of these tools, not treating them like afterthoughts.

We need more well planned, accessible, affordable housing located near transportation, grocery stores, healthcare, and community services. These are not luxuries, they are lifelines that allow seniors and veterans to live with dignity.

A Senior & Veteran Center That Actually Serves the Community

Edison’s senior community has been promised a new, modern senior center for years. Yet the project remains unfinished, stalled by delays and poor management. Construction was halted last year & since then the site has sat idle with few answers.
Meanwhile, the existing center on Woodbridge Avenue is aging and overcrowded & the Minnie B. Veal Community Center is being used as a temporary fix. That’s not good enough. Veterans, many of whom already face barriers to healthcare and social connection, need a place that welcomes them too.

We should create a true Senior & Veteran Center a hub for health, recreation, and social programs, where those who served and those who built our town can find connection and support.

Respect, Dignity, and Action

When I talk with seniors and veterans across Edison, I hear the same themes. People want to feel safe, valued, and able to live their lives without being pushed to the margins. These are not partisan issues. They are human ones.

Elizabeth Conway and I are running because we believe seniors and veterans deserve more than promises. They deserve action on housing, on community spaces, and on basic respect from our local government. David Tingle shares this commitment & together our team is ready to listen and to lead.

This campaign is not about party lines. It is about neighbors coming together to make Edison a place where seniors and veterans can thrive, not just survive. Together, we can make that happen. Learn more at TingleForMayor.com
