EDISON, NJ — The Edison Planning Board recently approved an application by Raising Cane’s for a fast food restaurant on Route 1.

Raising Cane’s proposed to convert a vacant bank with a double drive-through restaurant at 1031 US Route 1 South.

The restaurant would be a one-story, 3300-square-foot building with 60 drive-through seats, associated parking, landscaping, and signage.

The site is in a General Business Highway zone where fast food with drive-throughs is permitted conditional use.

The proposal includes four bulk variances - zero parking setback, no loading spaces, one sign instead of the maximum allowed, and increased wall sign coverage.

The restaurant will be located at a site that has Petco and Home Depot, with connectivity of parking throughout the whole center.

“Overall, Raising Cane’s proposed restaurant represents what we believe will be an upgrade, modernization of the site will add viability to the overall Center as a retail destination,” the attorney for the applicant told the Planning Board.

Raising Cane’s specializes in chicken fingers and is also known for its crinkle-cut fries and Texas toast meals.
