Real Time Election Results: Edison, Metuchen Democrats, GOP
The Edison Democratic primary has been an intense race. The Edison GOP and all Metuchen races are uncontested.
EDISON, NJ — Primary Election Day is here in Edison and Metuchen, and after an intensely fought primary, the group of candidates with the local party's backing have won the nomination.
It was a very different story in Metuchen, where the Democratic race was uncontested and no Republicans were on the ballot. See the unofficial results below (results must be verified by the election clerk before they are considered official):

Two slates of four Democrats ran for the four nominations. Column A, "Real Edison Democrats," do not have the local party's support, while Column B, "Democrats For Edison," have been endorsed by the local party.
The second slate, "Democrats For Edison," won handily Tuesday night. They will face off against the Republican ticket, below, come November.

The race has been intensely fought, with the handling of the proposed Suez water partnership a key point.
The Democratic candidates in Column B, who will appear on the general election ballot in November, are:
- Ajay Patil 5,473
- Joseph Coyle 5,582
- Richard Brescher 5,397
- Joyce Ship-Freeman 5,336
The Democratic candidates in Column A were:
- Michael Lombardi 2,639
- Bhavini Shah 2,371
- Leonard Sendelsky 2,361
- Nimisha Shukla 2,389
The Republican primary for Township Council was uncontested. The following four candidates ran for four nominations, and will be on the general election ballot in November:
- Russell Azzarello 928
- Cathleen Lynch Kilic 879
- John Roche 892
- Gerald Shine c895
Metuchen
All of the races in Metuchen are uncontested on the Democratic side, and there are no Republican candidates. Barring a write-in candidate, the names on the primary ballot will be the same names elected in the general election:
- Mayor: Jonathan Busch 610
- Borough Council Members, 3 year term: Linda Koskoski, 617, and Dorothy Rasmussen, 606
- Borough Council, 1 year unexpired term: Daniel Hirsch, 591
