A True Friend: Retired Edison Police Officer Allen Sabo Dies At 76

Sabo served the community for over 40 years, the Edison Police Department said.

EDISON, NJ — Retired Edison Police Officer Allen Sabo died on Monday at a nursing facility in Edison. He was 76.

Sabo retired from the Edison Police Department in 2008 after over 40 years of service, the department said.

The police department said it was greatly saddened at Sabo’s passing.

“He will be missed greatly by his brother and sister Officers along with the Edison residents that remember the service he gave to our community to protect and serve,” The department said in a Facebook post.

Born in New Brunswick, Sabo graduated from Edison High School and later joined Middlesex County Park Police where he served for 10 years.

He then joined Edison Police Department. According to his obituary, he was a “true friend to those in the Indian community” and always helped those in need.

“Al's larger than life personality, left those that met him feeling like you knew him for a lifetime. His warmth and generosity will be forever remembered by his large circle of family and friends,” his obituary said.

Sabo was a member of the NJ State Policeman's Benevolent Association, Local 75 Edison, and was an active participant in their charitable activities and events.

He was a member of the New Jersey Police Honor Legion and remained an active member of the Executive Board until his dead, said his obituary. He served as president of the organization from 1994-1995.

Sabo enjoyed fishing, hunting and collecting military memorabilia.

Viewing will be held March 14, 9 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. at Brunswick Memorial Home – 454 Cranbury Rd., East Brunswick. This will be followed by mass at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, Kendall Park, South Brunswick.

Interment will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery – New Brunswick.
