Council Bonds $4.3M in Capital Improvements

2013 upgrades include reconstruction of West Palisade Avenue, environmental remediation at city properties, and paving projects.

Englewood residents will see better roads, improved parks and perhaps even new buildings following the council's unanimous decision to bond $4.3 million in capital projects Tuesday night. The council will pay $221,000 on the downpayment of the $4,345,000 total bond.

Here's the list of improvements that are appropriated:

*Milling and paving roadways, including Lincoln, Dwight and Walnut, at a cost of $750,000.

*Reconstructing West Palisade Avenue and other streets, including islands, crosswalks, curbs and sidewalks at a cost of $750,000.

*Various drainage improvements to infrastructure at a cost of $530,000.

*Park upgrades, including construction of the 9/11 memorial, upgrade of the Soldier's Memorial, and assorted tree plantings, to the tune of $229,000.

*Document retention, digitized, at a $75,000 cost.

*Environmental remediation to the armory, the pistol range, the old firehouse, as well as planned construction of the new firehouse. The item also includes sanitary sewer mapping, new steps to the library, new computers. The cost is $1.58 million.

*Upgrades to several traffic lights throughout the city, at $265,000.

*Acquisition of various equipment at $165,000.
