Dwight-Englewood, Saddle River Day Share County Tournament Title

Dwight Englewood and Saddle River Day finished Saturday with 15 points apiece to tie for the Bergen County Small Schools team title.

Dominant doubles play earned Dwight-Englewood a share of the Bergen County small schools team tennis championship Saturday.

The Bulldogs finished with 15 points over the course of the tournament, tying them with division rival Saddle River Day for the county's team title.

Four of Dwight-Englewood's five team slots advanced to the finals, but only the first and second doubles teams finished as small schools county champions.

In the finals, the first doubles team of Jason Yoon and Zach Canelos cruised against Leonia, 6-0, 6-3, and the second doubles tandem of Sumukh Sridhara and Luke Sherman beat Mahwah, 6-4, 6-4.

Dwight-Englewood's David Shutov (second singles) and Martin Schecter (third singles) both lost in the finals to their Saddle River Day opponents.

The Bulldogs and the Rebels, who have split their two team matches and now tied for the county small schools title, meet for a third time on Thursday with the season series and a division title riding on the outcome.
