Englewood Fire Department Gets $607K In Federal Aid
The city will use the money to hire and train new firefighters.
ENGLEWOOD, NJ — The fire department has been awarded $607,000 in federal aid, Sen. Robert Mendendez announced on Friday.
The city will use the money to hire and train more firefighters.
"Our fire officials need more hands on deck," Mayor Michael Wildes said in a news release.

Rep. Bill Pascrell, a Democrat representing New Jersey's ninth district, helped secure the money.
"There is no doubt that Congressman Pascrell’s efforts have been of enormous benefit to the Englewood Fire Department and most importantly, the public we serve. Congressman Pascrell has proven that he is 'one of us' and I once again offer to him a sincere 'tip of the helmet' for his unwavering support to the men and women of the fire service."

The money was allocated through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Program. Pascrell was the primary author of the legislation that created the program.
