The race literally follows in the footsteps that Stephen took that day on the way to participate in the rescue effort that saved thousands but took his life. A total of 25,000 people annually participate in the event, raising funds and hopes for the future. The money raised goes to helping critically injured veterans returning form the war, Gold Star families and families of first responders with small children.

This year marked the 63rd Annual New York Emmy Awards and the first time the awards were live streamed and not presented at a New York Gala. Each of the presenters were recorded in different locations, at different times, to ensure social distancing was maintained.
“To receive this Emmy in a year where there isn’t a gala but Tunnel to Towers is at the forefront of helping those on the front line feels even more gratifying then receiving my Emmy in front of my peers at a gala, " noted Ehrlich. "I consider myself the most fortunate producer in New York TV. I am able to use my vocation to help shine a light on one of the country's most influential charities. And then to be honored for the work with an Emmy award is incredible. I want to dedicate this Emmy to my son as it is the first one I have won in his lifetime.”
