Armed Guards Considered For Englewood Cliffs Schools
Englewood Cliffs schools are looking to upgrade their security and officials are considering hiring armed guards as part of their plans, according to Superintendent Robert Kravitz.
District officials began investigating options for increasing security after the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. last month. Kravitz said they consulted with local police and municipal officials, and have been looking into a variety of options, including hiring armed guards, as part of their investigation.

Additional groups and Bergen County residents have joined a 2012 lawsuit filed against Englewood Cliffs that seeks to block LG's plans to build an eight-story building over the Palisades treetops, northjersey.com reported Tuesday.
The New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs, Scenic Hudson, and local residents Margo Moss and Jakob Franke are now plaintiffs in the suit filed over variances granted to LG, the report said. Englewood Cliffs exempted LG from a 35-foot height limit on buildings in the borough.

Two lawmakers from Englewood have proposed a bill that would require gun owners to complete a safety training course before buying a weapon.
Under the bill proposed by Assembly Democrats Gordon Johnson and Valerie Vainieri Huttle, applicants for firearms purchaser identification cards and permits to buy a handgun would have to successfully complete a safety class or course recognized by the state police. Proof of completion would be required.
