Symphony's Art Strings Fundraiser Held Saturday at Midday Gallery

Midday Gallery is sponsoring a fundraiser this Saturday that commissioned 10 artists to make individual works of art using violins as their canvas and will raffle them off to benefit community education.

The work of artists commissioned to create art out of musical instruments will be raffled off Saturday at Midday Gallery in Englewood.

From noon to 5 p.m., the N. Dean St. gallery is sponsoring the Art Strings Project, a New Jersey Symphony Orchestra fundraiser that asked 10 artists to make individual works of art using violins as their canvasses.

Distinguished Englewood artist Irmari Nacht's "Rhapsody in Blue" violin will be raffled as part of the fundraiser, which goes to support community education.

"I chose ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ for my violin's theme because of my love of 1920s literature, art, social history, and of course, the music of George Gershwin," said Nacht, whose work has been exhibited in the Newark, Morris and Montclair art museums, among others.

Beyond Saturday, Nacht's work will continue to be displayed at the Gallery as part of its month-long exhibition "Museic," which runs from Saturday until June 3.

"Museic" features eight gallery artists and their music-themed creations expressed in oil pastels, etchings, monotypes, collage, wood cuts, oils and sculptures.

The opening reception for the "Museic" exhibition is also on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The accompanying Art Strings display and a raffle of the violins that are part of it will occur from noon to 5 p.m., with an artists talk at 2 p.m.
