Volunteers Sought for Palisades Interstate Park Cleanup

With debris still scattered from Hurricane Sandy along the shore of the Palisades Interstate Park, the park commission is organizing a volunteer cleanup effort to spruce up the coastline.

The storm surge from the October, 2012 storm washed up garbage and debris from the river, and the commission is asking for volunteers to hike the trail along the shore and help pile the debris for collection.

"If you ever thought about coming to one of our clean-ups, this is the one," said trail crew supervisor Christina Fehre. "The trail crew needs help gathering al the trash and debris that washed up on our beautiful Shore Trail during Hurricane Sandy."

The park commission will provide trash bags, gloves and litter sticks, as well as refreshments, to participating volunteers. For information, the commission can be contacted at trails@njpalisades.org or at 201-768-1360 ext. 110.

Volunteers will meet at the State Line Lookout at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27.
