Authorities Investigating Death Of Fair Lawn Man: AG

FAIR LAWN, NJ — Authorities are investigating the death of a Fair Lawn man following a fight at a Paterson bar early Sunday morning.

Paterson police officers were dispatched to Duffy's Bar and Tavern on River Street at about 2:44 a.m. on a report of a fight outside, said Attorney General Gurbir Grewal.

A large crowd was outside of the bar when police got there. Officers were told that Sherlock was involved in a fight with a man and his girlfriend, said Grewal.

Sherlock and the couple were taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson. Sherlock was admitted for treatment and police relinquished custody of him, Grewal said.

Sherlock was pronounced dead at about 4 a.m. Sunday, Grewal said.

The Attorney General's Office Shooting Response Team is investigating what happened and no further information was released.

The investigation is being conducted following a recently-enacted law requiring the New Jersey Attorney General's Office to investigate the death of a person that occurred with a law enforcement officer was acting in an official capacity or while the deceased was in police custody.

Duffy's Bar and Tavern is owned by Passaic County Freeholder Terry Duffy, according to NorthJersey.com.
