Cops To Bergen County Teens: If You Hold Middle School E-Bike Meetup, We'll Arrest You
Police plan to station themselves all over one Bergen County town this weekend to prevent an "unsanctioned" e-bike meetup.
FAIR LAWN, NJ — Police in Fair Lawn say they've caught wind of an "unsanctioned" e-bike meetup at the local middle school this weekend, and they'll do everything they can to stop it.
Several children in New Jersey have recently been injured or killed on bikes and motorized scooters, including a 12-year-old boy in Fair Lawn.
Any children attending an event at Thomas Jefferson Middle School this weekend could be arrested for trespassing, police said in a release.

"It has come to the Fair Lawn Police Department’s and the Fair Lawn Board of Education’s attention that there is an e-bike riding event scheduled to occur at Thomas Jefferson Middle School this weekend," the police said in a release. "Both agencies are publicly announcing that this is not a sanctioned event by either entity."
"E-bike riding events are not sanctioned at any other Borough of Fair Lawn-owned facility or any other Fair Lawn Board of Education facility on this or any other date in the future," police said.

They said they'll station police throughout town, as well as roving officers, to stop the event.
"Criminal charges will be filed for trespassing on Board of Education property and any other criminal offenses that occur," they said. "Motor vehicle summonses will be lodged against individuals riding micro-mobility devices such as bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, motorized bicycles, e-scooters, motorized scooters, and the like, which are operated in violation of Title 39 of the NJ Motor Vehicle Code."
Longer Wait For Driver's License
They warned that a child convicted of a motor vehicle offense could have to wait longer for a driver's license.
"To our parents, caretakers and guardians of our communities’ youth, please heed the above advice and do not permit, allow or encourage participation in the above events or ones like it for the safety of all involved," police said.
