Dine and Dance at Adopt-A-Soldier Platoon Fundraiser

The Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon, a local non-profit that provides support to military "adoptees" and their units stationed overseas, is having a dinner dance fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Fair Lawn Community Center.

The fundraiser, which runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., will feature a buffet dinner catered by Giovanni's Deli and music by Joe Zisa and Friends Band.

Tickets are avaliable until Jan. 8 for $50 per person and can be purchased in the mayor's office at Fair Lawn Borough Hall, Giovanni's, the Community Center, the Fair Lawn Community School office and online at www.adoptasoldierplatoon.org.

The Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon was founded in 2003 by Fair Lawn resident Alan Krutchkoff and his wife, Mary-Edna, as a way to provide support and boost morale for military units overseas and their families back home.

It has collected non-perishable food items, toiletries, small electronics and other items for hundreds of "adoptees" to date, including over 150 units currently. Some of the AaSP's current adoptees include the 10th Mountain Division, a dozen Explosive Ordnance Disposal units in Afghanistan, the 8th Marine Regiment and New Jersey SECFOR Platoon.
