Fair Lawn Man Charged with Sexual Assault of 10-Year-Old

A 44-year-old Fair Lawn man was arrested Thursday on charges that he allegedly "engaged in inappropriate sexual activity" with a 10-year-old girl.

Jose Anguiano allegedly abused the girl, an acquaintance, repeatedly over a period of several weeks and "gradually escalated in severity," Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said in a press release.

The arrest followed a joint investigation between Fair Lawn Police and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit after the girl reported the alleged abuse to her mother.

Police charged Anguiano with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of sexual assault by sexual contact and one count of lewdness.

A judge set bail at $250,000 with no 10 percent option with the requirements that Anguiano surrender his passport and have no contact with the girl. Anguiano is currently being held in Bergen County Jail. He is scheduled for arraignment next week.
