Fair Lawn Sponsors Green Fair at Community Center

The Green Fair takes place Wednesday, March 9 from 6-9 p.m.

The Borough of Fair Lawn is sponsoring the fourth Green Fair at the Community Center on Wednesday, March 9 from 6-9 p.m. with a snow date of Thursday, March 10. The Fair Lawn Environmental Commission and the Fair Lawn Green Team have joined forces to provide a wide range of activities relating to Protecting Our Water.

Topics will include presentations on fracking, solar panels, green roofs and the Educational Farm. The Fair Lawn Green Team's Historic Preservation Commission, Recycling and Clean Communities Division and Open Space Committees will be on hand. The Community Garden, Water Ambassadors, the 1492 Club and environmental clubs from Fair Lawn schools will also share their projects. The Green Team will offer updates on Fair Lawn’s Sustainable New Jersey status, and the Environmental Commission will provide information on the individual’s role in water pollution prevention. The status of brownfield remediation and vapor intrusion in the borough will also be explained. Garretson Farm will have seed planting activities for "farmers" of all ages to enjoy.

Ramapo, William Patterson and Bergen Community Colleges will provide information on sustainability. Neighboring environmental commissions and local environmental organizations will provide hands-on demonstrations and tabletop teaching displays. These include the Bergen County Audubon Society, the Hackensack River Keeper, DYI Rain Barrels and the Safe Routes initiative. Remediation consultants for the sites of the former Tops Cleaners and Clariant will also be in attendance to answer questions. Nutritionists from Shop Rite of Fair Lawn and Valley Hospital will provide information on healthy eating habits. Attendees are encouraged to bring items of children's unwanted clothing in good condition. These pieces of clothing can be swapped one for ones provided by the Swap, Don't Shop! children's coalition. Additional treats will include Whole Foods Market giveaways and door prizes provided by Applebee's and Shannon Rose.
