Full-Day Kindergarten Remains Goal For Fair Lawn Schools

School officials said they hoped to eventually implement a full-day kindergarten program, but it likely won't come soon.

Floods Snarl Traffic in Fair Lawn 

Heavy rains caused flooding on Route 208 South and some local roads Monday morning.

The Fair Lawn Rescue Squad  and Fire Department responded to Broadway at the railroad tracks, where a commuter bus and two cars were stuck in the water, according to Fair Lawn Police Det. Sgt. Brian Metzler. They used a boat to move five people from the bus and one from a car.

Pair Nabbed with Drugs, Cash, Knife, Cops Say

Police say the men had more than 100 pills and other drugs in their car.

$43 Tax Increase Expected For Average Saddle Brook Homeowner

The Saddle Brook Council is planning to vote on a $20 million budget at an upcoming meeting, once the state OK's their spending plan.

The total $20,077,899.19 budget, which was introduced in May, would include a tax levy of $15,479,778, according to township CFO Frank DiMaria. 

That's a 1.78 percent levy increase from last year, which equates to about $43 for the owner of the average township home assessed at $360,000, he said.

Crews Rescue Ducklings Washed Away in Storm Sewers

Five ducklings trapped in a storm drain in front of McDonald's, on Broadway in Fair Lawn, were rescued by Fair Lawn emergency responders Sunday.
