Man Stole Pickup Truck From Fair Lawn Gym: Police

The victim's keys were stolen out of his jacket from Crunch Fitness. The man was arrested after arguing with an NJ Transit driver Wednesday.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — A man was arrested in connection with a truck that was stolen from the Crunch Fitness parking lot earlier this month, police said.

David DeLaurentis, 30, of Pateson was charged with theft after police investigated how the vehicle was stolen on May 15, said Sgt. Brian Metzler.

Fair Lawn police went to Crunch Fitness at 9 a.m. on a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle's owner, a Westfield resident, said that the keys to his 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck were taken from his jacket, Metzler said. The jacket was inside a locker.

Police got a photo of someone wanted in connection with the theft from surveillance video at Crunch Fitness.

Several police responded to a dispute between an NJ Transit bus driver and a passenger at Morlot Avenue and Canger Place shortly before 12:21 a.m. Wednesday, the sergeant said.

Police removed the passenger, DeLaurentis from the bus and identified him as the person wanted in connection with the Crunch Fitness pickup theft, Metzler said.

Police arrested DeLaurentis. In addition to theft, he was also charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He had marijuana in a duffel bag he was carrying, police said.
