Paterson PD Arrest 44 In Undercover Prostitution Sting

PATERSON, NJ - Undercover detectives arrested more than three dozen people Tuesday during an operation aimed at cracking down on prostitution in Paterson, authorities said.

The operation was organized in response to complaints regarding solicitation, particularly in the area of Van Houten and East 18th streets, according to Paterson’s public safety director Jerry Speziale, Jr.

Speziale said residents have reported that women are loitering in the area day and night openly soliciting people for sexual acts in exchange for money.

On Tuesday, police conducted a two-part operation that resulted in 44 arrests, Speziale said. Of those arrests, 12 were prostitutes and 25 were related to solicitation for sexual acts, he said.

A total of 38 criminal charges were filed and during the course of the operation, four baggies of marijuana and 12 glassines of heroin were recovered, Speziale said.
