Police Announce Hiring of 3 Fair Lawn High School Grads

Fair Lawn Police Chief Erik Rose announced Thursday the hiring of the borough's three newest police officers, all of whom are borough natives with strong ties to the community.

Fair Lawn High School graduates Christopher O'Shaughnessy (Class of 2000), Nicholas Snyder (Class of 2002) and John Rovetto (Class of 2005) will be sworn in as borough police officers at the Jan. 15 council meeting, before shipping off to the Bergen County Police Academy three days later, Rose said.

The new hires, who were brought on in anticipation of multiple officers retiring over the next few years, should hit the road as full-fledged members of the force in October 2013.

O’Shaughnessy, 30, whose older brother Timothy is a Fair Lawn police detective, served six years in the United States Navy with their Military Police force before separating as a Second Class Master at Arms. He most recently worked for Park Avenue Acura, after leaving the service.

Snyder, 29, is a volunteer fireman and ambulance corps member in town. The 2006 Lafayette College graduate worked previously for Fuchs Ambulance in Fair Lawn.

Rovetto, 25, is a 2010 graduate of William Paterson University, where he studied history. He worked previously for the Transportation Security Administration. 

Barring any end-of-year retirements, the police department will have 58 officers once these three are sworn in next month.
