FAIR LAWN, NJ — A woman kicked and spit on police officers while being arrested during a traffic stop early Friday morning, authorities said.

Samantha Polanco, 25, of Bronx, New York was charged with resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, throwing bodily fluid at a law enforcement officer, obstruction, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, and bail jumping.

Buitron learned that Polanco, a passenger inside the vehicle, had a $2,500 warrant out for her arrest in Hackensack.

While getting out of the vehicle, Polanco twisted away from and struggled with police officers, Metzler said. They fell to the ground and Polanco spit on and kicked Buitron before police got her under control, he said.

Polanco kicked the front bumper of the police vehicle several times while being led away, damaging it, Metzler said.

Police had to forcibly escort Polanco from the police vehicle and into headquarters after she told them she could not walk, the sergeant said. She also said she had to be taken to the hospital "due to a preexisting medical condition," Metzler said. She was brought to New Bridge Medical Center, where she was treated and released back to police.

Polanco was at Fair Lawn Police headquarters at press time. She will be taken to the Bergen County Jail.
