There's a lot going on in and around Fort Lee this weekend

Phew! We made it to April despite the fact that we narrowly avoided a major nor’easter this week. (Or did it avoid us?) Doesn’t matter because whatever remnants of winter Mother Nature decides to throw our way, we can already smell the suntan lotion and feel the sand between our toes. Did you know that April is the unofficial, official kick-off to start wearing flip-flops? So peel off the socks, get those toes twinkling, flip on those flops and let’s go!

Madonna Church First Friday Holy Hour: Monthly adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Children’s Museum of Manhattan Target Free First Fridays: One of the advantages of living in Fort Lee, and the reason why many people move here, is our close proximity to Manhattan. The first Friday of every month Target sponsors free admission at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. Many Fort Lee families have taken advantage of visiting the museum on Target Free Fridays and have raved about it. Why not take the kids and have a visit for yourself?
Admission is free from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Children’s Museum of Manhattan is located at The Tisch Building, 212 West 83rd St.
Depression Era Glass Show in Allendale: This show is being held on Friday 6:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Collectors and non-collectors alike will be impressed by the diversity of items, from every-day kitchenware to complete luncheon and dinner sets to decorative and elegant serving pieces.
The Depression Era Glass Show is located at Guardian Angel Roman Catholic Church Auditorium, 320 Franklin Turnpike, Allendale.
Saturday:
Fort Lee Church of the Good Shepherd Pot Luck Dinner: Join Reverend Allison and the congregation of the for a Pot Luck Dinner 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the parish hall.
The Church of the Good Shepherd is located at 1576 Palisade Ave.
Lafayette Theater Big Screen Classics: Blake Edwards' "The Party:" Fort Lee Film Commission Chairman Nelson Page brings Blake Edwards’ classic “The Party” starring Peter Sellers to his Lafayette Theater. The Lafayette Theater is an original 1926 movie palace painstakingly restored by Page so that people could see movies the way that they were originally meant to be seen. The movie begins at 11:30 a.m., but get there at 11 a.m. to hear Jeff Barker play the theater’s magnificent organ. All tickets $7.
The Lafayette Theater is located just over the border at 97 Lafayette Street in Suffern, New York.
Health Fair for Body, Mind & Spirit in Ridgefield Park: Everyone is invited to this free health fair. Free screenings include: Skin Cancer, Hearing, Stress and Nutrition, Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose, Pharmacist Counseling, Exercise Physiologist, and much, much more.
Service providers include Englewood, Holy Name and Hackensack Hospitals.
The Health Fair is being held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish Hall on the corner of Park and Bergen Avenue in Ridgefield Park.
Easter Egg Hunt at the Demarest Nature Center: Toddlers through fourth-graders will enjoy this festive event. Bring your own baskets to scoop up chocolate eggs! The hunt begins at 2 p.m. Rain date is April 3.
The Easter Egg Hunt will take place in the Imaginative Playground in Wakelee Field, Demarest Nature Center 90 Park St.
Sunday:
Palisade Interstate Park Meet up & Clean-up: Park clean-up co-sponsored with the Appalachian Mountain Club, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ross Dock in Fort Lee (PIP Exit 1). Trash bags, litter sticks, rubber gloves and treats provided. It’s free so come on out and make our slice of the River front beautiful. And meet some really great people!
Bergen County Historical Society: History Café Lenape New Year: If your fourth-grader has spent the better part of this school year knee-deep in Lenape culture, then this is the place to take them. The Bergen County Historical Society celebrates the Lenape New Year, Chwame gischuch, with a lively historical presentation by Bob Wills, of the Sunrise Trading Post. Bob will share his knowledge of Lenape foods, herbs and customs, showing and sell traditional trade items representative of the Contact Period. 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
This presentation will be held at the Historic New Bridge Landing, 1201-1209 Main St., River Edge.
Also, tune in to WFDU 89.1 FM this Sunday evening from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. where About Town will be hanging out with Fort Lee’s very own D.J. Christine Vitale, host of Group Harmony Alley. Why waste time flipping the channels when you can listen to some great doo-wop?
