Candidates for Municipal, County, State Elections Announced
Deadline to file for June primary was 4 p.m. Monday.

Monday was the filing deadline to run in the June 7 primary election for municipal, county and state seats.
In Fort Lee, Mayor Mark Sokolich (D) is seeking re-election to a second term. He is being challenged for the mayoral seat by Judith Fisher (R), municipal chairman of the Republican Party in Fort Lee.
Both Councilman Michael J. Sargenti (D) and council president Armand Pohan (D) will seek reelection to the Borough Council. They will be challenged by Nadeem Akda (R) and Martha Cohen (R), who also ran for a seat on the all-Democratic council in November 2010, when she and John Criscione lost to Jan Goldberg and Ila Kasofsky for the two three-year terms on the boroughβs governing body. Criscione did not file to run again Monday.

On the state level, incumbent Democratic State Senator Loretta Weinberg will face Republican challenger Robert S. Lebovics in the District 37 race, while in the race for seats on the General Assembly, incumbent Democrats Valerie Vaineri Huttle and Gordon M. Johnson will be challenged by Republicans Gregory John Aslanian of Englewood Cliffs and Keith Jensen of Fort Lee, who currently serves as the vice president of the United Republican Club of Fort Lee.
Democratic Assemblywoman Joan Voss of Fort Lee seeks election as Bergen County Freeholder along with David Ganz. Now that Fort Lee is no longer part of District 38 after the redistricting decision, Voss has decided not to challenge her colleagues in district 37 or move to another town in district 38 in order to try to stay in the state assembly.

Republicans running for Freeholder are Joel Brizzi and Anthony Rottino. Β County Clerk Β Elizabeth βLizβ Randall (R) will face John Hogan (D).
