Critically Acclaimed Movies Free In Fort Lee
A quick look at five upcoming free film screenings as summer and Fort Lee's 2011 "Movies and Music Under the Stars" program are just warming up.
If you haven’t taken advantage of the free, weekly, outdoor movie screenings provided every Saturday evening at the by the Fort Lee Film Commission as part of its annual “Movies and Music Under the Stars” program, here’s what you’ve missed so far:
- Sands of Iwo Jima
- The Social Network
- Fantastic Mr. Fox
But don’t worry. There’s still plenty of time to catch some critically acclaimed and/or classic films for which all you have to do to watch is show up. Today, Patch takes a quick look at the next five:
Son of Frankenstein (1939) on July 23

True Grit (2010) on July 30

Written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen and starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Hailee Steinfeld, this film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards.
The King’s Speech (2010) on August 6
Starring Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter, this movie took home Academy Awards—it was nominated for 12—for Best Picture, Best Director (Tom Hooper), Best Actor (Firth) and Best Original Screenplay (David Seidler).
Ironman (2008) on August 13
Stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard.
Broadway Danny Rose (1984) on August 20
Written and directed by Woody Allen and starring Allen, Mia Farrow, Nick Apollo Forte and Joe Franklin, this movie’s Fort Lee screening is a must see—or at least a must attend event—as Forte and Franklin will be making a special guest appearance.
Note: Technically “5 Things” is, as the name suggests, a list of five things, but don’t miss Dr. No (1962) on August 27 or Mary Poppins (1964) on September 3.
