Five Things To Do in Fort Lee This Weekend

There is plenty going on in Fort Lee this weekend; here's a quick look at five things

Still wondering what to do with this weekend? Below are our top five local options for you, your family and friends to consider:

Number one:

Fort Lee's annual Movies and Music Under the Stars continues Saturday when the music at the will be provided by Joey Arminio and the Family Broadway Extravaganza, and the movie will be Iron Man (2008) starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The weekly event takes place Saturday evenings/nights through Labor Day weekend.

Music is from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and the movies start at sunset. Programs will take place indoors in the event of rain.

Number two:

Sunday at 2 p.m. the will host “Wearable Art—Found Object Jewelry Design,” a jewelry craft demonstration by Phyllis Ger, a regular on Cablevision’s How-To Channel. Participants are encouraged to bring found objects or mementos to make their own craft projects and will be instructed on how to make creative use of objects such as buttons, beads, fabric and stones.

Number three:

Sunday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Fort Lee High School auditorium will be hosting “Art & A Biblical View of Man,” part 1 of a 4-part series.

In the first session, Hall will be looking at the art of ancient Egypt, the art of the Hebrew tabernacle and the tabernacle as it relates to the biblical gospel and our everyday lives.

Number four:

The Fort Lee Farmer’s Market continues Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Lee Community Center’s plaza area on Inwood Terrace.

Vendors this year include Sunden's Stone Pointe Farms, Senor Peanut, Meredith Breads, Mortgage Apple Cakes, Semi Sweet Desserts and Vesco Foods, serving up olives, marinated mushrooms, pickles, sun dried tomatoes. For more information call 201-693-2763.

Number Five

And art lovers should check out two exhibits currently on view at the .

In the library’s lower-level Atrium Gallery is the Second Annual Exhibit of the Students of Florence Katz from the Richard A. Nest Senior Center, in which the work of 16 artists is on display with a range of styles and subject matter.

And on the library’s first floor, the Lobby Showcase features the sculpture of Tendekayi Tigere from Zimbabwe.

“Tigere draws on the themes of daily life, and his works are primarily in hard stones, such as leopard rock and verdite stone,” according to information on the library’s website.

The library is open Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.

Both exhibits are on view throughout the August.
