Hudson River Sailing, Parenting Talks, Outdoor Events, More This Weekend

A quick look at five things you should know about as you plan the rest of your weekend

Here is a look at five things going on in Fort Lee this weekend you may want to know about and might not want to miss:

The Tenafly Nature Center, Association of Environmental Commissions and the are co-sponsoring a series of cruises on the Hudson on New Jersey’s official tall ship, the A.J. Meerwald, all weekend long.

Saturday

  • 1:30 p.m. Children’s Sail: This 2-3 hour, round-trip sail offers kids (ages 5-12) and their parents a hands-on learning experience. A Tenafly Nature Center Environmental Educator will introduce you to Hudson River fish, crabs & other creatures. The sail departs from the Alpine Boat Basin. $25/child $50/adult.
  • 5:30 p.m. Evening on the Hudson: Sail on the Hudson and enjoy the music of Eva Sklar, a N.J. based performing artist and songwriter, whose music is best described as a soulful combination of R&B, Jazz, and Pop. $70/person.

 

Sunday

  • 12 p.m. Children’s Sail: This 2-3 hour, round-trip sail offers kids (ages 5-12) and their parents a hands-on learning experience. A Tenafly Nature Center Environmental Educator will introduce you to Hudson River fish, crabs & other creatures. The sail departs from the Alpine Boat Basin. $25/child $50/adult.
  • 3:30 p.m. Skyline Sail: Maritime Tales of the Hudson: The most popular sail. Palisade Interstate Park Historian, and Kearney House Curator, Eric Nelson will spin yarns about the river and its denizens. Sail departs from the Alpine Boat Basin. Motor coach transportation back from Liberty State Park to the Boat Basin is included. Total sail and transportation time around 5 hours. $75/person.

 

To reserve seats and purchase tickets, visit the Tenafly Nature Center here, and don’t forget to bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, camera, binoculars, snacks and beverages. Beer and wine are okay, but liquor is not allowed.

Number two:

Fort Lee's annual Movies and Music Under the Stars continues Saturday evening at the . This week’s music will be provided by Smooth, and the movie will be the critically acclaimed, The Social Network (2010).

Music is from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and the movie starts at sunset. Bring a blanket or lawn chair because seating is expected to be limited. The program will take place indoors at the community center if it rains.

Number three:

The farmer’s market continues Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the ’s plaza area on Inwood Terrace.

Vendors this year include Sunden's Stone Pointe Farms, Senor Peanut, Meredith Breads, Mortgage Apple Cakes, Semi Sweet Desserts and Vesco Foods, serving up olives, marinated mushrooms, pickles, sun dried tomatoes. For more information call 201-693-2763.

Number four:

is inviting busy parents to attend a lifestyle program Sunday at 2 p.m. The program, presented by professional organizer Linda English of Organizing with EASE, LLC, teaches parents “how to eliminate clutter and make your home office work for you.”

You can bring the kids too! Story time will be offered in the library’s children’s department.

Number five:

Parenting: Principles and Practices

is sponsoring a free talk on parenting and the church's children's ministries in the Fort Lee High School auditorium, where the church meets for Sunday worship services.

This event takes place Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. and is open to all parents. Children are welcome for crafts and games, and dinner will be served.
