NJ Man Sentenced In Girlfriend’s Fatal Stabbing: Officials

LEONIA, NJ - A Bergen County man was sentenced to over three decades in state prison with no parole after pleading guilty to the 2022 murder of his then-girlfriend.
Nile Diakos, 35, of Leonia, was sentenced to 35 years in state prison with no parole after pleading guilty to the 2022 murder of Alicia Arnone and two other cases in Passaic County.
Arnone was found dead in her apartment by police on March 26, 2022, the prosecutor’s office said. She was found with multiple stab wounds when police arrived.

Diakos pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on April 10, 2023. As part of a plea deal, he also pleaded guilty to a second-degree weapons offense and fourth-degree stalking.
Diakos was sentenced to 30 years for the murder of Arnone. It will run consecutively with a five-year sentence for the weapons charge and 18-month sentence for a stalking charge.

Authorities initially arrested Andrae Daniels of Lodi in connection with Arnone's death; Daniels was arrested and charged after two witnesses identified him as the suspect.
However, officials said further investigation cast "serious doubt" on witness accounts. According to authorities, one of the witnesses recanted their previous statements and identified Diakos as a suspect. Daniels was later released from jail.
