Pizza Reviewer Dave Portnoy Rates 2 Bergen County Restaurants

How did two Bergen County pizzerias fare in Dave Portnoy's "One-Bite Pizza Reviews" on a scale of 1 to 10?

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, whose quick "One-Bite Pizza Reviews" have drawn over a million followers on social media, gave a boost to two Bergen County pizzerias last week.

Portnoy typically takes a few bites of each pizza in a short video, and gives valuable publicity to each restaurant, scoring the pizzas on a scale of one to 10.

Scores over 8 are among the best, and often result in a flurry of new customers.

Portnoy stopped into pizzerias in Fort Lee and Saddle River late last week.

He stopped into Baggio's Restaurant and Pizza on Main Street in Fort Lee, which specializes in thin crust pizza, Italian dishes, seafood, and salads. "We are serving delicious pies in New Jersey for more than 20 years," the website says.

Among the higher-end items: linguini frutti di mare, which is shrimp, calamari, and clams with red sauce.

But how's the pizza?

"Very light," Portnoy said, eyeing it. "That looks like a good pie right there."

Portnoy tried several bites and seemed to enjoy his slice.

"It's good," he said. "This style pizza, and this style in particular, I always have a hard time describing what it." Crunching away on the thin slice, he added, "7.9? It's good."

Saddle Brook

Next, Portnoy swung by Grumpy's in Saddle Brook, a family-owned eatery that serves sourdough pizza. They also specialize in pasta and sliders.

"This guy's at one-bite pizza fest multiple times, big pizza guy," Portnoy said, "so I'm anticipating I'll like this. It's very thin. He said he makes it like I like it. This is a thinny-thin." He noted that the pizzeria was busy.

The pizza appeared to not have much crust around the perimeter, a flawless specimen of cheese and sauce.

"Wow," he said. "He said it's unique and it is unique. I don't know how to place this. Is it the sourdough that I'm tasting? Very unique pizza. Good, crisp, thin...Overall, I'm going to go, 7.8. I was debating 7.9. The only thing I can say is, I don't know that this could be an everyday pizza. It's different. It must be the sourdough. Grumpy's, very very good. That's the review."

Marcelo Segura, the owner, said he doesn't try to copy anyone, and that he uses fresh mozzarella and a low-moisture blend of tomato.

"This is like a dream come true," Segura says in the video.

Portnoy Moving To Jersey?

Portnoy may not just be a New Jersey pizzeria customer — someday he might work here.

In October, Portnoy said that if Zohran Mamdani won the mayoral election in New York City, he might just move his company to Hoboken or Jersey City — but he didn't want to burden his staff. READ MORE: Pizza Guru Dave Portnoy May Move Company To Hudson County If Mamdani Wins, He Says
