Police Announce Temporary Number for Non-Emergency Calls
People should still call 911 in the event of an emergency but must call 201-461-8000 Wednesday from 9 p.m. to midnight if it's not an emergency, Fort Lee police said.

If you need to reach the Wednesday evening for anything other than an emergency, you're going to have to call a different phone number than you normally would, according to police.
The local police department is changing over to a new phone system, and police officials are therefore asking the public calling with non-emergencies to use an alternate number starting at 9 p.m. on June 27 and continuing until midnight that night.
While the 911 system for emergencies will remain fully operational during the transfer, people should call 201-461-8000 for non-emergencies, police said.

“We always keep that open as a backup system just in case there’s some sort of catastrophe,” said Det. Ira Haas of the Fort Lee Police Department. “We always keep a backup to the backup.”
The normal number for non-emergencies, 201-592-3700, is expected to be available again by midnight Wednesday (officially 12 a.m. Thursday, June 28), he said.
