School No. 1 Students Collect, Donate Food for Families in Need

The November food drive brought in about 700 non-perishable items, which were donated to the Englewood Food Pantry this week

Students at collected about 700 non-perishable food items during the month of November and donated them this week to an Englewood food pantry for Bergen County families in need.

Students had the entire month to bring cans of food to school, with each grade level getting a specific assignment, said School No. 1 guidance counselor Marisa Buonomo.

Fort example, Kindergartners brought in cereals and grains, while first-graders brought canned fruits and vegetables and so on.

Sixth grade students who participate in Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) helped coordinate the food drive, along with the school's PTA, according to Buonomo.

“SADD officers, Shayna Huberman, Tommasina DiMeglio, Elijah Blumenkranz and Alexandra DaChenko worked hard this past month, counting out all of the donations of non-perishable food items collected for the needy of Bergen County,” Buonomo said. “School One's staff and students made generous donations of all kinds of food items to help support the hungry in our area.”
