Number five:Β

And finally, Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich has released his 2011 summer message on the borough’s website. The mayor’s message begins as follows:

β€œWhen the Borough of Fort Lee bestowed the privilege upon me to serve as Mayor almost 3 Β½ years ago it was very clear to me from the beginning of my administration that this community faced major issues. First, how to handle and respond to a recession which has virtually crippled our state and our nation. Second, resolution of the infamous 16-acre parcel of land adjacent to the George Washington Bridge, which is now known as β€˜Redevelopment Area 5.’

Rather than sit back and respond to the then oncoming recession, Fort Lee addressed it head on by instituting hiring freezes, eliminating raises not required by collective bargaining, putting into place income-producing programs such as the ambulance co-pay program which generates approximately $900,000 per year, a reduction in our total workforce by almost 40 employees and other cost-cutting and income-producing measures.”

Sokolich’s entire 2011 summer message can be downloaded here.

We’ll take a closer look at many of these events and activities this week on Fort Lee Patch.
