Another Chance To Audition For 'Deathtrap' Production In Freehold

An extra audition for the Center Players' show will take place Wednesday, Feb. 22.

FREEHOLD, NJ — Center Players' production of "Deathtrap" opens in April, and there is another chance to audition for a role in the play on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Come to the Center Playhouse, 35 South St., Wednesday between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., for the audition.

"Deathtrap" was written by Ira Levin and had a huge run on Broadway and was also made into a movie. This production is directed by Jeff Caplan, according to a news release from the theater company.

The performance dates are April 14 to 30, with nine performances: Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

The plot follows Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, who is struggling to overcome a dry spell that has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds.

A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college—a thriller that Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway smash, the company said in the release.

The following roles are available:
  • Sidney Bruhl: (40s or older), playwright, sharply funny and witty
  • Myra Bruhl: (40s or older) Sidney's smart wife
  • Clifford Anderson: (20s) Sidney's young student; a writer and seemingly naive
  • Helga ten Dorp: (40s or older) Sidney's "psychic," eccentric neighbor
  • Porter Milgrim (30s or older): Sidney's lawyer

Performers of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition, the news release says

Audition material will be provided but those auditioning are asked to bring a headshot and resume

This is a non-union, no-pay role, the news release notes.
