Upper Freehold Regional Schools Seek To Fill Board Vacancy

UPPER FREEHOLD, NJ — The Upper Freehold Regional Board of Education is seeking qualified candidates for membership to the board, the district recently announced.
The term for the vacancy will run until the board reorganizes in January 2027, officials said. The position will be placed on the ballot at the annual election the preceding November.
Currently, there are three members of the Upper Freehold Regional School Board whose terms expire in 2025, according to the Board of Education website.

Board Vice President Vanessa DePompo and Board Member Chris Midura are seeking re-election to the board in the upcoming November election. Board Member Wil Borkowski’s term will run through the end of 2025.
To become a member of a local Board of Education in New Jersey, candidates must:

- Be able to read and write
- Hold U.S. citizenship and one year’s residency in Upper Freehold Township
- Be registered to vote in the district
- Have no interest in any contract with, or claim against, the board
- Not hold office as mayor or member of the municipal governing body or, in the case of county school districts, the county governing body
- Not simultaneously hold two elective offices
- Not be disqualified from membership for the conviction of certain crimes. (Within 30 days of election or appointment to the board, a member must undergo a criminal history background investigation through the state Department of Education)
Within the powers delegated to it by law, the board serves as the policy-making legislative branch of the school district.
Any qualified Upper Freehold resident interested in serving on the board is asked to submit (by email) a letter of interest to Assistant Superintendent of Business/Board Secretary Nicole Petrone at petrone.nicole@ufrsd.net.
Letters of application will be accepted through Sept. 8 until 12 p.m., and the Board of Education will review all qualifying applicants.
Interviews for the vacancy will be conducted on Sept. 15 at the Board of Education meeting.
