Amazon Planning Another NJ Delivery Facility: Report

GALLOWAY, NJ — Amazon's quest to keep expanding has brought it to Galloway, where it is proposing to build a delivery facility, according to a report.

Plans for an Amazon "Last Mile Delivery Station" were presented to the Galloway Township Planning Board on Thursday night, the Press of Atlantic City reported.

The project is proposed for a lot at South Genoa Avenue and Aloe Street and would be a 181,000-square-foot building, according to the report. Bluewater Property Group is the developer, according to the Planning Board agenda.

Town officials welcomed the proposal, but the plan still must be approved by the New Jersey Pinelands Commission, the Press report said.

A "Last Mile Delivery Station" is where packages are sent from Amazon's fulfillement centers, to be sorted and loaded onto vehicles for delivery to customers. The delivery stations are significantly smaller than the fulfillment centers, a Real Estate NJ report said.

Amazon has been expanding those locations in response to the increased demand for product delivery during the pandemic. It added 14 locations in North Jersey in 2020, the Real Estate NJ report said.

It opened several in 2021, including three in central New Jersey in June, NJ.com reported.
