Missing Man's Body Found In South Jersey Park: Police

Jefferson Smith had been missing for more than a week before his body was discovered in a wooded area in Northfield, police said.

NORTHFIELD, NJ — The body of a man missing for more than a week has been discovered in an Atlantic County park, local police said.

Jefferson Smith, 55, was last heard from on Sept. 9, Northfield police said. He was considered missing and endangered. Smith's body was found in a secluded, wooded area in Northfield's Birch Grove Park on Sept. 18, police said.

"The Northfield Police Department extends its condolences to Mr. Smith’s family and loved ones, and asks you to keep them in your thoughts during this difficult time," police said.

Police also thanked everyone who assisted in the search, including members of the community who offered tips and efforts of their own.

"It was clear that Mr. Smith was cared for greatly by the community," police said.
