NJ Man Gave Girl, 12, Weed In Exchange For Sex: Police

David Roary, 41, began sexually assaulting the girl when she was 12 and gave her marijuana in exchange for the acts, police say.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — An Atlantic City man is accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl and giving her weed in exchange for the sex acts, police said.

The investigation was launched on Sept. 29 when the parent of a 13-year-old girl told police about possible sexual acts occurring between the child and an adult, Atlantic City police said.

Police identified the adult as 41-year-old David Roary. Text messages between Roary and the girl indicated a sexual relationship that began when she was 12, police said.

In exchange for the sex acts, Roary gave the girl a THC vape pen and/or marijuana, police said.

A search warrant was executed on the 1100 block of Baltic Avenue on Oct. 1, police said, and Roary was taken into custody.

Roary was charged with aggravated sexual assault, which falls under the Jessica Lunsford Act, increasing the penalty for aggravated sexual assault involving children under the age of 13.

He was also charged with two counts of sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of CDS.
